Cultural Capitals

Cultural Capitals acknowledges the force of cultural collision, and it's uncertain outcome. The dome interiors are modeled after architecture found in the capital cities of Columbia, South Carolina and Baghdad, Iraq. These structures represent power socially, and politically within their corresponding cultures. Meant to indicate ascension and connection with the divine, when the domes are directed laterally the experience becomes destructive. The lateral movement threatens the cultural interior, as they remain completely unknown to each other, but a delicate and intimate act of intervention suggests the possibility of something other than destruction.
