Monument to Chai
Monument to Chai is an ongoing series of large scale drawings that act as a form of portraiture and celebration of hospitality. The monumental seven foot tall drawings are a record of tea served as a symbol of welcome and an honoring of the hands that prepare the tea and subsequently extend welcome. The reflective surfaces of each vessel offer an abstracted glimpse into the environment in which people have gathered. The scale, both physically overwhelming and somewhat imposing, positions viewers as the receptive vessels with tea flowing directly towards them.
